Newbury — After a short illness, on March 25, 2013, Donald F. Smith, age 93, passed away at Salmon Beaumont Nursing Home in Northborough. Son of William L. Smith and Doris L.B. Hughes, he was born in Lynn on September 22, 1919.
Mr. Smith was a master machinist, draftsman, and tool and die maker, who was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense for 35 years. He spent his retirement years in Newbury and Manchester, N.H.
His wife, Gertrude E. Simms Smith, predeceased him in 2009. A man of strict duty, honor, and integrity, his actions spoke more than words; and he will be deeply missed. He leaves the following close relatives, a son, Donald A. Smith of Millbury; two grandsons, Lucas A. Smith of Leominster, and Colin M. Smith of Huber Heights, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren.
