Newburyport, MA — Alice Zartarian, 75, died April 10, 2013, at her residence in Newburyport. She was born on January 24, 1938, in Newburyport, daughter of the late John and Helen (Chapman) Barrett. She was raised in Rowley and was a graduate of Ipswich High School.
Alice was employed for many years at Gould Shawmut, and was also part owner of 20th Century Cleaners and Launders Inc., and Helen’s Gift Shop in Newburyport. Alice volunteered at Opportunity Workshop in Newburyport and was active in founding and managing the Newburyport Special Needs Summer Program.
Alice is survived by her husband of 42 years, Richard Zartarian, of Newburyport, son, Richard Zartarian, Jr. and his partner Mark Baker, of New York, daughter Helen Ann Zartarian, of Amesbury, siblings, Daniel Barrett and his wife Irma, of Rowley, Helen Adams, of New Gretna, N.J., Ann DeSerres, of Somersworth, N.H., and step brother John Barrett of Seabrook, as well as several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Twomey LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA, 01950. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery also in Newburyport.
