Boxford — After a life well-lived, Kathryn A.(Palmer) Hansen died peacefully on March 12, 2013 surrounded by love.
Kathryn attended Central Catholic High School in Troy, N.Y. and graduated from The College of St. Rose with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She worked for many years as a case manager for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and as a Director of Nursing at the Newport Health Care Center in Newport, Vt. and at the Daniels House Nursing Home in Reading. An enthusiastic traveler, Kathryn visited destinations all over the world, including Egypt, the Holy Land, Turkey, Croatia, Scandinavia, Ireland and Italy, among many other ports of call. Upon retirement, she and her husband enjoyed wintering at their home on the Caribbean Island of St. Croix.
Kathryn was an avid entertainer and cook. She loved the holidays and enjoyed hosting frequent dinner parties for her family and friends. She also enjoyed laughter, playing the piano, reading, swimming and current events. She volunteered for many years at the Boxford Town Hall and was a daily communicant at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Topsfield. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her husband and family and as a loyal and trusted friend.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph M. and Theresa H. Palmer of Mechanicville, N.Y. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert A. Hansen, of Boxford; her children, Timothy J. and his wife, Eran, of Rochester, N.Y., Theresa M. of Amesbury, Joseph P. of Boxford, his girlfriend, Coco Grace of Brookline, and Kathryn A., of Boston. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, whom she adored and doted upon, Rosemary, John, Michael, Mary Frances, Moira, Alfred, Mia and Tess. She is also survived by her loving and devoted sister, Mary Burke, and her husband, Thomas, of Westborough, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathryn had many lifelong friends whom she cherished, including Rose and Colin Nadeau of Andover, Robert Brown of Portland, Maine, Claire Mackey of Newburyport, and Kolene Taylor of Greenville, S.C.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral mass will be offered on Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m. at St. Rose Of Lima Church in Topsfield. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Cemetery in Boxford.
