Francis Bernard "Smitty" Smith

Salisbury, MA — Francis Bernard “Smitty” Smith, age 85, of Salisbury, formerly of Newburyport, died Monday evening at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport.

Born in Quincy, May 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Louis I. and Bessie (Gracie) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army from December 4, 1950 until his honorable discharge on November 26, 1952 with the rank of Private First Class.

A longtime resident of Newburyport, Smitty, as he was known by his fishing buddies, ran his own fishing boat out of the former Powers Yacht Club in Newburyport for 45 years.
