Robert Graham Mann

West Newbury — Robert Graham Mann, age 86, of West Newbury, died Friday evening, February 15, 2013 after a long illness, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by the family who loved him so dearly.

Born in Somerville, April 1, 1926, he was one of seven children of the late James and Ethel (Morris) Mann. He grew up in Medford and at the age of 17, enlisted in the Marines on December 29, 1943. He served in the South Pacific and Hiroshima, Japan, receiving an honorable discharge on March 28, 1946.

Upon returning home from the military, he renewed his friendship with his childhood sweetheart, Marjorie A. Foster and they were married on June 26, 1948. They would have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this coming June.

Bob and his brother William owned a local Boston trucking business for several years, then he worked 25 years for the U.S. Post Office in Woburn.

He was an antique car enthusiast and was a member of the Klaxon Auto Club of Dracut for years. In retirement, Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their motor home.

Mr. Mann was also a past officer and longtime member of the Stanley F. Wood Post No. 134 of the American Legion in Merrimac and had been a member of the Merrimacport United Methodist Church of Merrimac more than 30 years.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marjorie (Foster) Mann, he leaves his daughter, Carole M. Gibbons of Lowell and his son, Robert G. Mann, Jr. and his wife Karen of Maine; two grandchildren, Katherine Vaillancourt and husband Corey and Benjamin Graham Mann; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Colin Vaillancourt; his brother, Donald Mann of Florida along with several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 10:30 to 11 A.M. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, Church Street, Merrimac, immediately followed by services at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Bridge Street Cemetery, West Newbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472; Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830; Merrimacport United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 214, Merrimac, MA 01860 or the Veterans organization of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 36 West Main Street, Merrimac.
