Amesbury, MA — Eleanor A. Donahue passed away peacefully on Saturday at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill with her family at her side. She was born in Holyoke, Mass., and was the daughter of the late Maurice and Kathryn (O'Connell) Griffin. She was the wife of the late Eugene Donahue who passed away in 2007.
Residing in Amesbury for the last 10 years, she had been a North Providence, R.I., resident for 40 years. A longtime educator, she had earned a Bachelor's degree in history from University of St. Joseph of West Hartford, Conn., and earned her Master's degree in education at Boston University. She went on to teach in Holyoke, Mass., Olean, N.Y., and Johnston, R.I. She would go on to become an Assistant Professor at the Henry Barnard Laboratory School of Rhode Island College. She also served as founding member and president of the North Providence League of Woman's Voters.
She is survived by her children, daughters, Kathryn A. Donahue and her partner, Linda Warnock, of Boxford, Mass., and Mary S. Donahue O'Neill and her husband, Seamus, of Amesbury, Mass.; her sons, James A. Donahue and his wife, Marilyn, of North Hampton, N.H., and John B. Donahue and his partner, Michael Goyak, of Los Angeles, Calif.; her six grandchildren, Shelly Albro and husband, Tim, of Epping, N.H., Gordon Craig and wife, Viki, of Amesbury, Erin Donahue Parsons and husband, Tom, of Windham, N.H., and Katy, Libby, and Danny O'Niell, all of Amesbury; and her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Nichola Albro, Molly and Devon Craig, and Aiden Donahue. She was the sister of the late James F. Griffin who had resided in Minnesota.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Holy Family Parish Church, 2 School St., Amesbury, MA. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury, are Wednesday, July 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Office of Alumni Relations and Giving, University of St. Joseph, 1678 Asylum Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117.
