West Newbury — Stephanie (Christuk) Atwood died peacefully on April 14, 2013, surrounded by her family at her home where she resided for the last 59 years.
She was born in Newburyport on October 1, 1919, the daughter of Konstantin and Feodosia (Osipovich) Christuk. She attended Newburyport’s Brown and Jackman grammar schools, and graduated from Northern Essex Community College with a Liberal Arts degree at age 70.
One of her more enjoyable activities over the years was attending her kids' high school athletic events. She was by far their number one fan and rarely missed any of their games.
She also enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots.
Stephanie always had a great love of the beach and spent much of her life enjoying local beaches, as well as occasional vacations to the Caribbean and Aruba.
Her other passions included dancing, writing poetry, playing cards and tennis. She was a member of the Racquet Club in Newburyport. She was also a member of St. Anne’s Church in West Newbury, as well as it’s Guild.
In addition to her husband of 70 years, Robert Atwood, Sr., she is survived by her daughter, Joanne Atwood of Ashburnham; sons, Robert Atwood, Jr., of Newbury and Scott Atwood and his wife, Ellen O’Connor-Atwood, of Salisbury; grandson, Benjamin Atwood and his wife, Jill, and their children, Jonathan and Emily, all of Danvers. She also leaves her brother, Constant Christuk, his son, Christopher, and his wife, Amy, and their children, Catherine, Connor, and Carson, all of Plum Island. Stephanie was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Atwood, in 1973 and her sister, Mary Butler, in 2006.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Monday, April 22, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. By request of the family, there will be no visiting hours and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
