Lorraine B. Ouellette, 79

Amesbury, MA — Lorraine B. (Fournier) Ouellette of Amesbury was reunited with Bob, her husband of 51 years, when she passed away on Monday, October 14, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. A peaceful end to a lifetime of helping others, she exhibited great strength and bravery as her family gathered around her bedside for final moments to share, reflect, cry and celebrate all she had lived through and for.

The daughter of J. Laurent and Georgiana Fournier, Mom graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Newburyport, then married the dashing sailor she had fallen for and started a family. In the late 1950s, she began a retail sales career that spanned 40+ years in banking and women’s clothing. In 1974, Mom assisted a two-year-old girl who was sick with cancer. This first volunteer moment inspired her to continue assisting people by organizing a wide variety of fund-raising events including bike-a-thons, dances, house-to-house campaigns, and a rubber duck derby. Over the last decade she assisted local seniors and led them on multiple trips throughout the Northeast and around the world. Sometime this fall, 45 seniors on a travel adventure will be departing a local parking lot and someone will announce….Stop the bus, Where’s Lorraine!

Lorraine is survived by sisters, Anita Fournier, Yvette Bartlett and brothers, Philip, Romeo, Fred and Paul Fournier. Mom leaves behind four daughters — Pam Dow of Milton, Vt.; Susan Hines and husband Steven of Newburyport; Kathy Kus and husband Ed of Loudon, NH; and Gayle Aponas and her husband Stephen of Byfield — and son Rob Ouellette and wife Dianna of Newburyport. Mom was a loving Grandmother to Jefferey, Matthew, Mike, Jacquey, Ashley, Ben, Katie, Trevor, Josh, Jillian, Jake, Sam and Grace. Mom was blessed with five great-grandchildren, with a sixth due in May. She was predeceased by sisters, Doris Tatarczuk, Lucina Gorski, Gilberta Carbeneau and brother, Henry Fournier, and by grandson, 1st Lt Derek Hines, and son-in-law, George Dow. Mom was an energetic aunt to many nieces and nephews and leaves countless friends and acquaintances who were touched by her gift to give and love.
