Rancho Murieta, CA — John Timothy Whalen of Rancho Murieta, Calif., passed away on October 11, 2013. He was born October 4, 1952, to Alice and James Whalen of Newburyport, Ma. He was a series 7 licensed stockbroker for over 30 years, beginning with Liberty Financial of Boston, Wells Fargo Securities of San Francisco, and most recently with The Principal Group of El Dorado Hills, Calif.
Mr. Whalen is survived by his wife of 33 years, Laurette "Cookie" Whalen, and his daughter, Jessica Whalen, who is a doctoral candidate at the University of Edinburgh. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Hampson (Barry) of Plano, Tx.; niece, Lauren Kubin (Matt) of Richardson, Tx.; niece, Meredith Lundy (Kevin) of Louisville, Ky.; brother, Paul Whalen of Salisbury, Ma.; brother, James Whalen of Georgetown, Ma.; brother-in-law, William Whitten (Linda) of Rochester, N.H.; brother-in-law, Michael Whitten (Carol) of Elliot, Maine; and mother-in-law, Lucille Whitten of Rancho Murieta, Calif.
John was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2010 ("I never smoked") and underwent a double lung transplant at UCSF in July of 2011. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the donor's family as well as to the transplant coordination team at UCSF, which was headed by Dr. Golden. A special hug goes out to Millie for her constant encouragement and dedication to John's health, as well as to Dr. Martina Randolph of UC Davis in Folsom and her dedicated team for their local support.
Gentleman John with the baby blue eyes will never be forgotten.
ARRANGEMENTS: Services in celebration of John’s life were held at the Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Rancho Murieta on October 25. The family encourages all to become an organ donor during license renewal.
