Dayton Arey, 57

Milbridge, Maine — Dayton Doggett Arey passed away unexpectedly Friday November 9th, 2012. He was born in Newton, Mass. on October 6, 1955 and grew up in Newbury where he played hockey in his backyard as a youngster on “Arey Pond” and spent a lot of his time rebuilding the courts at the “Old Town Country Club” with his father. It is here that his love of tennis began and Dayton became a star tennis player receiving many awards.

Dayton attended St. John's Prep school and Triton Regional High school where he was an exceptional athlete playing soccer, hockey and tennis. He was captain of all 3 teams and received numerous awards and accolades. Dayton attended New England College and continued his success.

Dayton is survived by his beloved daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth Arey; his parents, Florian George Arey Jr. and Deborah Dayton Doggett Arey of Milbridge, Maine; his brother George Arey III and his wife, Anne Arey and their three children, Christopher, Quincy, and Dayton Arey of Milbridge, Maine. Also survivors are his sister, Deborah Arey Canning, husband Peter Canning and their children Shalagh and Peter of Plainville, Mass. Other survivors include his wife Heidi Arey, step-children Brigitte, Cassidy, and Eli Parady.

Dayton had a magnetic personality and easy going demeanor that caused people to gravitated toward him as he amassed many friends throughout his life. He had a true passion for sailing which was a family love, and enjoyed every opportunity he could to be on the water. His love of boating brought him from Cape Cod in the summers to the Bahamas when his daughter Jenny was small. Always helping others, Dayton was a skilled worker who could accomplish any task. He worked for many years in the boating industry, where his heart and expertise lay.

Dayton remained an athlete and played tennis regularly. He was an excellent player achieving much success and creating a group of friends who truly loved him. Dayton was always positive and had a smile for everyone. He devoted his time to taking care of his family and just wanted everyone to be happy. He will truly be missed and his beautiful spirit can never be replaced.

ARRANGEMENTS: The celebration of Dayton's life will be held at The Good News Center, 171 Bar Harbor Rd. Trenton, Maine 04605 in the community center auditorium, Saturday, November 17, from 1-3 p.m. with John Linnehan officiating.

A memorial fund has been set up at First National Bank Jennifer Arey c/o Dayton Arey, P.O. Box 1099, Ellsworth Maine 04605.

The daughter of the late Liberato and Lucia (Berardini) Grassi, she was born on March 29, 1922, and was educated in the Haverhill School System. A member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1941, she attended the Fasio Beauty School and was a beautician in the Haverhill area for over 40 years. Her most recent employment was with her dear friend, Mary Pauline Wyka at Andrea’s Beauty Salon in Plaistow.

Born in Hartford, Conn., on November 23, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Howard A. Willard and Virginia McCray Miller Willard. Pat, or Patsy as she was known then, was raised in Wethersfield and West Hartford. She was predeceased by her twin brother, Palmer Southworth Willard, her youngest brother William Leslie Willard and her older brother, John Bleveny Willard.

He is survived by his daughter, Judythe Eaton of Ft. Pierce; his son, John G. Buzzell Sr. of Merrimac, Mass.; two sisters, Adrienne Beaulieu and Helena Worthen, both of Amesbury, Mass.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lorenzo and Wilfred Gagne, and one sister, Therese Garneau.
