Amesbury, MA — Bonnie S. (Dutra) Gatcomb, longtime Amesbury resident, died early Tuesday morning, November 13, 2012 at Maplewood Care & Rehab Center in Amesbury.
Born in Newburyport, August 27, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Ethel (Geldert) Dutra and was a graduate of Amesbury High School, then attended Salem Normal School.
Mrs. Gatcomb had worked 42 years at Towle Manufacturing in Newburyport. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish in Amesbury; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Amesbury Fire Department, and, as an avid golfer, was a member of the Olde Newbury Golf Club and the Towle Golf League.
Bonnie and her husband Bob enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the States and for more than 30 years had summered in Madison, New Hampshire, where she served as secretary of their community association, M.A.T.E. She also loved the anticipation of “winning big” on scratch tickets and always looked forward to their trips to Las Vegas where she enjoyed playing the slot machines at the various casinos.
Her survivors include her beloved husband of 50 years, Robert A. Gatcomb of Amesbury; four brothers-in-law, Frank A. Gatcomb and companion Pam Kelson, of Pittsfield, NH; John E. Gatcomb of East Kingston, NH; James A. Gatcomb and wife Becky, of Newmarket, NH and William A. Gatcomb of Surf City, S. Carolina; three sisters-in-law, Wilma A. Garland and husband Roland, of Center Harbor, NH; Mary A. Currier and husband Charles, of Kingston, NH and Rae E. Mayes and husband Lewis of Springfield, TN, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Francis Dutra; a brother-in-law, Leslie E. Gatcomb and a sister-in-law, Judith A. Alvarado.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Friday, November 16, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. Memorial services at the funeral home will be Saturday at 1 P.M. followed by interment at Union Cemetery, Amesbury.
