Passed away peacefully while in Hospice care on Jan. 31, 2012 in Rochester, N.Y.
She was born Oct. 6, 1929 as Irenemarie Havey in Weston, Mass., and was married in Boston in 1952, taking the surname Cullinane. She leaves behind two daughters, Maeve Cullinan (Stephen Schultz) of Rochester, N.Y. and Deirdre Aleta Weaver of Ithaca, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Sarah, Abigail, Brenna and Danu; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice & Tom Connors, Phyllis & Don Howard, Joan Denning & John Perry, Jean Sweeney and Jack Sweeney; as well as 15 beloved nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
She was predeceased by her son, Mark Edward Cullinane, and her parents, Edward B. and Irene (Simard) Havey. Rocky earned degrees from Northeastern University and Simmons College. She worked throughout her life as a Children's Librarian in Philadelphia, Poughkeepsie, and Katonah, N.Y., and finally as the Head of the Children's Department at the Boston Public Library, retiring in 1986.
She lived in Brookline and Newburyport, Mass., until 2005 when she moved to Rochester, N.Y. She loved drama and the theatre, storytelling and travel. She took trips around the U.S. and the world, including Egypt, Greece, Iceland, Japan, England and Holland.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of her life will be held on Plum Island in the spring.
