Newburyport, MA — Joanne E. (Murphy) Collins, age 73, of Newburyport, died peacefully at Kindred Hospital in Peabody on Friday, May 3, 2013, with her family by her side.
Born in Boston, December 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Johanna A. (O’Leary) Murphy and after graduating from high school, received her Bachelor’s degree in Education. As a dedicated teacher, she pursued a lifelong career in elementary education, beloved by the numerous students whose lives she impacted throughout her lifetime.
Her survivors include her two daughters, Lynne Anderson and her husband, Scott Anderson of Monument, Colo., and Kerri St. Jean of Merrimac, Mass.; five grandchildren, who held a very special place in her heart, Kelsey, Kyle and Kevin Anderson and Holly and Timmy St. Jean; her brother, James E. Murphy and wife, Joyce Murphy of Stoneham, Mass.; her three nephews, Jimmy, Ted and Patrick Murphy; along with many dear friends.
ARRANGEMENTS: A small private service will be held at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, at a future date to allow for family travel. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanne’s memory can be sent to Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, Inc., 360 Merrimack Street, Building 5, 2nd Floor, Lawrence, MA 01843, in recognition for the caring and tender support they provided to Joanne over many years.
