South Berwick, Maine — Barbara Helen (Field) Valyou, 84, of South Berwick, Maine, formerly of West Newbury, died Monday evening, October 1, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Newburyport, July 15, 1928, one of ten children of the late Rene E. and Elsie H. (Zimmer) Field, she was a graduate of Saugus High School , Class of 1946 and attended Burdett Business College.
Barbara worked with her beloved husband of 65 years, LeRoy N. Valyou, running the Valyou Auction Company in West Newbury and had also been a manager at the Dunkin Donuts in Saugus. She always enjoyed the great times she and her husband had with the West Newbury Square Dance Club.
A woman of great faith and devotion to her family, she was always glad to help with whatever needed to be done.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind her daughter, Susan B. Puleo and husband Dennis of West Newbury; sons, David N. Valyou and wife Nordis of Atkinson, N.H.; and Robert L. Valyou and wife Lauren of Haverhill; sister, Betty Frederick of Lebanon, Maine; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services at the funeral home will be Friday at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Bridge Street Cemetery, West Newbury.
