Lynn, MA — George A. “Bud” Jackson Sr., age 90, of Lynn, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the loving husband of Virginia (Greene) Jackson, and the son of the late Alexander Jackson and Lillian Jackson Poole.
Born in Lynn, George was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1941, and attended Bentley College, where he studied accounting. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. George proudly worked for the Lynn Police Department for 33 years until he retired in 1986. In 1977, he attained the rank of Sergeant, and was awarded several commendations during his years of service. In his younger days, he worked as a soda-jerk at the former Dionne’s Ice Cream at the corner of Franklin and Boston Streets in Lynn. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Gannon Golf Course, where he played on the Shoe City League. He and his wife enjoyed yearly couples golf trips to the Jack-O-Lantern Resort in New Hampshire. He also enjoyed playing cards and was a coach with Wyoma Little League. Most of all, George had a special fondness for spending time with his grandsons.
Besides his loving wife, Virginia, of 69 years, George is survived by his son, Bud Jackson Jr. of Merrimac; his two grandsons, George “Bud” Jackson III of Alexandria, Va., and Terrance Jackson of Merrimac; his sister, Dorothy Fenton, and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Dennis Jackson, Paul Jackson and Judith Jackson, and the brother of the late Lillian Dakin, Marjorie Lloyd and Edith Carter.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held in the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn, on Monday at 11 a.m. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
