Byfield, MA — Sylvia Jean (Marston) Littlefield, 8 days shy of her 82nd birthday, longtime resident of Byfield, died Wednesday afternoon at her home in Byfield.
Born in Newburyport, March 7, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Charles Marston and Elizabeth (Adams) Spofford. Jean was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1948, went on to graduate from Dean Junior College and then attended the University of New Hampshire for three years.
Jean was dedicated to her farm and raising Arabian horses, sheep and cows. Having lived at the farm most of her years, her whole life centered around the hard, yet rewarding work of farming. It was not uncommon to see her driving a tractor haying the fields. From sunrise to sunset, there was never a dull moment, and Jean was always prepared for whatever came along. She was a woman of great strength, dedication and love.
She is survived by her son, Frederic K. “Ric” Littlefield, Jr. and companion Linda Knight; her daughter, Sarah J. “Jani” Quill and husband Donald; two grandchildren, Sarah Jean Clifford; Kate Quill and husband Daniel Iwanowicz; her two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Asher Clifford, all of Newbury, along with many dear friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Robin Marston.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be held on her birthday, Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 4 to 6 P.M. Interment will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970 where Jean adopted many of her dogs.
