Salisbury, MA — Martha Ruth Stanley, 62, longtime resident of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, on Monday morning, surrounded by the family she cherished so dearly.
Martha was born in Newburyport on January 3, 1952, one of six children of the late George Washington Stanley, who died in 1995, and Betty May Stanley, who died in 1991.
Martha never had any children of her own, but she was like a mother not only to her four generations of nieces and nephews, but also to the neighborhood children and her friends’ children, who all lovingly referred to her as “Auntie Martha.” To her brothers, sister and all her cousins she was “Sis,” and to her many friends she was “Mrs. 52.” They all looked up to her.
Family was most important, and throughout her life, she always took care of everyone with great pride, honor and love. She also loved animals, especially her beloved dog, “Stanley Mama Boy.”
Martha will forever be missed by her sister and her brothers, Daisy L. Snow and husband, Kevin, of Salisbury, George W. Stanley Jr. and companion, Shelly, of Portsmouth, N.H., Levi C. Stanley and wife, Cathy, of St. Albans, Vt., and Arthur G. Stanley and wife, Gayle; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Stanley of Salisbury; and the many generations of nieces, nephews, cousins; and dear friends.
She is now eternally reunited with her parents; her brother, Lushie L. Stanley, who passed in 2011; and all the rest of the departed family members, who are rejoicing in their glorious reunion.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be on Wednesday, April 9, from 1 to 5 p.m. Funeral services at the funeral home will be held on Thursday, at 10 a.m., followed by the burial in Union Cemetery, Amesbury.
