Amesbury, MA — Barbara Drew, a lifelong Amesbury resident, passed away peacefully late Thursday evening at the Merrimack Valley Health Center, formerly Amesbury Village. She was born in Amesbury and was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mae (McEachern) Burke. She was the longtime wife of the late Robert Drew who passed away in 1995.
She attended St. Joseph's School for 8 years, and attended and graduated from of AHS with the Class of 1952. She went on to work for Durasol Chemical of Amesbury, retiring after 28 years from a job she was dedicated to and enjoyed. She had been active most of her life with her church, Holy Family Parish, singing in the choir, volunteered her time with the Knights of Columbus Easter shows, and other church events. She loved singing karaoke where she made great friends and was known to belt out a tune. A real people person in her later years, she was known as the "Huggie Lady."
She is survived by one son, Lawrence "Larry" Drew, daughter, Karen Drew, both of Amesbury, daughter, Nancy Drew of Haverhill, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 15, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Family Parish Church, 2 School St., in Amesbury. Burial will be at a later time. Calling hours at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., in Amesbury, are Monday, April 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
