Killarney, Ireland — Muriel D. (MacKenzie) Knight passed away suddenly on April 7, 2014. She was born on November 8, 1940, to Christine (Walton) Buckley in Boston. She grew up in Salisbury, graduated Newburyport High, Class of 1959, and received a certificate in travel and tourism from Northern Essex in 1993.
She had been a member of the Penguin Club, and recently worked with the Parkinson's Association of Ireland, South Kerry Branch, as secretary for the group.
She worked in banking until marrying and starting a family in Newburyport, where she had lived for many years. While raising her family, she volunteered in the local schools, continued her education, and traveled. It was through her love of travel that she discovered Ireland and truly felt at home, spending much of the past 20 years in Killarney.
She is survived by son, Robert Knight and wife, Erika; daughter, Valerie (Knight) Flaherty and husband, Chris; and four beautiful grandchildren, Katelyn, Felipe, Kyle and Augusto. Along with former husband, Norman Knight, she is survived by sister, Dorothy Wieck; brothers, Arthur MacKenzie, Douglas MacKenzie and wife, Cynthia, and Fred Buckley and wife, Joan; many nieces and nephews; and friends here and in Ireland.
ARRANGEMENTS: We celebrated her love of Ireland with a beautiful ceremony in Killarney on April 12. At a future time, we will celebrate her life here at home in Massachusetts. Donations may be made in her memory to the Parkinson's Association of Ireland, South Kerry Branch, c/o Valerie Flaherty, 68 High St., Amesbury, MA 01913.
