St. Petersburg, FL — Ruth E. (Sanders) Mansfield died April 16, 2014, in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Mansfield, who she shared 64 years of marriage. Ruth and Bill traveled greatly enjoying cruises and seeing all of the 50 United States.
Ruth was the first woman to be appointed to the Newburyport License Commission, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 150 and she created the all girls Legionettes Drill Team which marched in the early years of Yankee Homecoming. She dearly loved the Newburyport community where she had spent many years before retiring to Florida after the Blizzard of '78.
Ruth volunteered for 20-plus years at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital and was very active in the VFW and the DAV in St. Petersburg.
She was a loving friend, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Ruth loved bingo, shrimp, word searches and merlot.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth and Frank Donovan of Newburyport, Mass.; grandson, Kevin and Sue Donovan; great-grandsons, Kyle and Aiden Donovan of Amesbury, Mass.; son, Bill and Stella Mansfield of Madeira Beach, Fla.; daughter, Barbara and Dana Wilson of Crawfordville, Fla.; grandson, Scott Barber and Kathy Jo Malti; great-grandchildren, Preston and Lorraine; grandson, Jason Mansfield; and nephew, Bill and Carol Yates.
