Newburyport, MA — Sylvia Avaline Tattersall, age 88, former longtime Newburyport resident, died December 26, 2012 at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, with loving family at her side.
Born in Rockland MA, May 18, 1924, she was wife of the late Arthur “Roy” Tattersall, and was the daughter of the late Grace Evelyn (Richmond) and Ralph Lester Belcher.
She graduated from Rockland High School in Rockland, MA in 1942. Upon graduation from the Chandler Secretarial School for Women in Boston, MA in 1944, Sylvia worked as Secretary Receptionist at Calumet and Hecla Copper Co, in Boston, MA from 1944-1946. On September 7, 1946, she and ”Roy” were married.
Later in life, Sylvia was Secretary at the First Religious Society Unitarian-Universalist in Newburyport, MA from 1968-1994, where she also served as a past member of the choir and of the following committees: Religious Education, Parish, Church Fair and May Breakfast. In addition, she served as Secretary of the General Charitable Society of Newburyport, member of the Board of Directors of the Swasey Fund and member of the board of the Newburyport District Nursing Service, Inc.
Sylvia is survived by her son Jon Roy Tattersall and wife Janice of Beverly; her daughter, Sue Ellen (Tattersall) Creed of Salisbury, Andrew Creed, son-in-law, of Salisbury, her granddaughter, Hannah Richmond (Creed) Barry and husband Christopher of Salem, NH, and sister Marjorie McLean of Duxbury.
ARRANGEMENTS: A “Celebration of Life” will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the First Religious Society, 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport for family and friends. Interment will be private for the family.
