William R. Droese


Amesbury, MA — William F. Droese, age 76, longtime Amesbury resident, died peacefully on Monday afternoon, May 20, 2013, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., April 15, 1937, he was the son of the late William F. E. and A. Marie (Asmussen) and was a graduate of RCA Institute in New York City, where he received a degree in engineering.

Mr. Droese proudly served his country with the United States Army during the peacetime period between the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

“Bill,” as he was known by many, worked as an engineering associate at Lucent Technologies, where he retired with more than 34 years of service. He was a lifetime ham operator, known by his fellow ham operators as “W1DYH."

A loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, wonderful uncle, and dear friend, he was a kindhearted, caring man with a great sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, Linda L. (Bertogli) Droese of Amesbury, he is survived by his son, Peter Droese and wife, Michele; his grandson, Luke; sister-in-law, Pat Ouellette and husband, Paul; his nine nieces and nephews, Glenn, Cathleen, Emily, Jack, and Ben Fougere, and Michael, Adam, Scott, and Sarah Ouellette; and was predeceased by his infant son, Matthew, in 1976.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, will be Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 24, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury, followed by interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amesbury.
