Robert Leighton Bryant, age 88, longtime Amesbury resident, died Friday evening, February 3, 2012 at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Murphy) Bryant, who died September 25, 2003.
Son of the late Edwin L. and Viola (Fernald) Bryant, he was born in Newburyport, December 19, 1923 and was a graduate of Amesbury High School.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Mr. Bryant entered the Military, serving during World War II with the United States Army Air Corps from December 1, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 27, 1945.
He worked as a spray painter at General Motors in Framingham until his retirement in 1988.
His survivors include his daughter, Susan J. Ponti and his only granddaughter, the pride and joy of his life, Lauren Ponti, both of Amesbury; a daughter, Linda Bryant; two sisters, Shirley Wright and husband Charles of Amesbury and Eleanor Hawks and husband Floyd of Oklahoma along with several generations of nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services and interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amesbury will be private for the family. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury.
