Paul D. Haley, 74


Seabrook, N.H. — Paul D. Haley passed away on Tuesday, March 19, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late, Frederick R. Haley and Margaret (Leary) Haley.

Paul was the loving husband to Lorraine P. (Costello) Haley. He was a wonderful father to Susan L. (Haley) O'Neil and her husband, Timothy of Salisbury and Christopher P. Haley and his girlfriend, Katie Dawe of Newmarket, N.H. He was also an amazing Papa to Matthew O'Neil.

Paul was born in Newburyport and recently lived in Seabrook, N.H. He graduated from Newburyport High School in 1956 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 - 1960. He become a certified electrician in the Navy and worked in this field until he started his own business in 1965 driving a canteen truck servicing factories in the Newburyport Industrial Park. He and his wife, Lorraine, were the original owners of Haley's Ice Cream (formally Emerald Dairy) from 1982 to 1986. Even after he retired from the canteen truck business, he continued to work for Crossmark from 2009 right up until he was diagnosed with cancer. He made so many wonderful friends over the years and was so loved and respected by many people.

He was the most kind and generous man in the world. An example of his generosity, was when one of his companies that he serviced went on strike. Paul continued to feed everyone for free for over 6 months knowing that they did not have an income during that time. Paul could fix anything, loved telling jokes, and had a fun sense of humor. He loved bowling, woodworking, and caring for his beautiful lawn. He was an extremely hard worker and never missed a day of work.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandson, Paul is survived by his brothers, Frederick Haley and his wife, Anne of Cambridge and Thomas Haley and his wife, Claudette of Queensbury, N.Y. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Raymond Costello and his wife, June of Merrimac. He had many nieces and nephews, including, Mark Haley and his wife, Holly, David Haley and his wife, Sara, Peter Haley and his wife, Hannah, Daniel Haley and his wife, Jen, Michael Costello and his wife, Cathy, Katie Maguire, Sheila Haley, and several great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two nephews, Jim and Jeff Haley. Paul had many wonderful friends, but Leonard Chaisson and his late wife, Barbara, and Patricia Gabriel were some of the best.

ARRANGEMENTS: A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. at the Star of the Sea Church in Salisbury. A gathering for friends and family will be held immediately following at the home of Michael and Cathy Costello, 65 Bridge St., West Newbury.
