Newburyport — Charles A. Lagasse Sr., 84, a resident of Newburyport, died May 8, 2013, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. He was born on April 17, 1929, to the late Alphonse and Kathryn (Ross) Lagasse in Haverhill, Mass., where he was also educated.
Charlie enlisted in the Army in 1952 and served proudly during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. Following his service, Charles joined the family business with his father, Alphonse, and his brother, Ralph, as the co-owner and co-operator of Brentwood Furniture in Haverhill, Mass., for 35 years. Charlie was an avid sportsman who loved being on his boat or in the outdoors. He was admired by all for his ability to work with his hands to build or fix anything.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Maureen (Pothier) Lagasse of Newburyport; children, Chuck Lagasse Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Newburyport, Michael Lagasse and his wife, Niki, of Newburyport, Lauren Hefferan and her husband, John, of Newburyport, and Kevin Lagasse and his wife, Ellen, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Megan, Charlie III, Callie, Paige, Lizzy, Kevin Jr., Robbie, and Gregory; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Lagasse.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Twomey LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport, MA 01950. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery also in Newburyport.
