NEWBURYPORT — Bertha (Cohen) Wexler, 99, of Newburyport, formerly of Amesbury, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Brigham Manor Nursing Home in Newburyport. She was the wife of the late Harry Wexler.
Born in Methuen on February 6, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Max and Siral (Robinowitz) Cohen and graduated from Edward Searles High School, Class of 1929. Bertha and her husband owned and operated for over forty years the former Vogue Dress Shop in Amesbury.
She was past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Friendship Chapter and past president of the Amesbury Hospital Club. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1568, Elizabeth Whittier Club, the Grange, Whittier Home, the Rebekah Lodge, Ahaves Achim, life member of Hadassah Senior Center, Golden Age Club, Belle Bridge Club, Bartlett Museum and Amesbury Improvement Association.
She is survived by her son Herbert M. "Hal" Wexler and wife Ronni of W. Newbury; a sister Gertrude Burtnick of Texas; three grandchildren Hillary Elfson, Matthew Wexler, and Dr. Bryan Wexler, along with several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Michael M.
ARRANGEMENTS: A private funeral service and burial was held at the Newburyport Hebrew Cemetery, Salisbury.
