Christopher Riley, 50

Newburyport — Chris Riley, 50, passed away Tuesday, February 19 after a year-long, courageous battle with testicular cancer. Chris was a devoted husband to his wife Elizabeth (Crossley) Riley, and a loving father to his three daughters, Lily, Clara, and Anna Kate. He was a kind, generous and genuine man with a great sense of humor, who was a friend to many. There was probably not a person who knew him who didn’t have a kind story to share.

Chris was born in Schenectady, NY, the son of the late Danielle J. and William E. Riley. He grew up in Enfield, CT, graduated from Enrico Fermi High School in 1980, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1984.

Chris enjoyed a successful career as a construction manager for several Boston area companies. Among them were Modern Continental, Barletta Engineering, and for the past 6 and a half years, J.F. White Contracting. He was truly fulfilled by his work in the construction industry and was involved in many large-scale construction projects in the Boston area, including Big Dig projects both in downtown Boston and at Logan Airport.

Chris gave much of his time to coach his daughters’ sports teams. He was a well-respected girl’s lacrosse coach for many years, sharing his passion for the sport he loved and leaving a lasting impression on many of the players he coached. He also served on the board of the Newburyport Youth Lacrosse League. In addition, he coached soccer for the Newburyport Youth Soccer League as well as basketball at the Immaculate Conception School.

He enjoyed reading, spending time with friends, fishing, skiing, playing lacrosse in a men’s league and especially spending time with his wife and daughters.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his “kid sister” Lisa Riley and her partner Michelle Hunt of Ballston Spa, NY and his stepmother Nancy Duffy of Brownsville, VT. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law Susan Kendall and her husband William of Auburn and Perry, ME; his father-in-law Neil Crossley of N. Windham, ME, the Immaculate Conception School community, and many, many devoted friends.
