Newburyport, MA. — Katherine A. Callahan passed away on March 1, 2013 at Merrimack Valley Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Kathy was born in Lawrence, September 13, 1952. She was the daughter of the late John F. Coady and Margaret Ellen Connelly Coady. Kathy graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lawrence, in 1970. She received her BA in Welfare from Mount St. Mary’s College in NH, and an MSW from Barry University in FL. She also held a certificate in Case Management from NE Healthcare Assembly and held an LICSW in MA.
Kathy began her career in Social Work at MA Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children. She then worked at Madonna Hall in Worcester and the teen-based health center at Lowell High where she worked with troubled adolescents. In 1993, Kathy began her amazing journey at Mary Immaculate Health Care and Restorative Center in Lawrence. Kathy was the Director of Mission Integration. In this position Kathy sought to maintain and nurture an environment of which the philosophy, values, and mission of MI were integrated throughout all companies, departments, and services. She was responsible for planning and conducting all mission activities within the organization.
Kathy is pre-deceased by her beloved husband J. Kevin Callahan of 32 years. She will be greatly missed by her incredible children: Kate and her fiance Rafael Polanco, Joe
and his wife Ashley, Maggie and her fiance Robert Ritter, and her beautiful granddaughters, Michaela and Addison.
Kathy is survived by brothers: Frank Coady, Jack and Joyce Coady, Timothy Coady, and pre-deceased by her brother Dan Coady. Sisters Carol and David Breen and Nancy Coady. Sisters-in-law, Barbara Westbrook and Susan and Jack McDonald, Godson, Johnathan Breen, and many nieces and nephews.
Kathy’s favorite times were spent with family and friends at their beloved home on Lake Winnipesaukee and the Coady family beach house in Seabrook, NH. She spent many happy vacations on the island of Aruba.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 5th at 10AM at St. Michael Church, North Andover. Interment will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery, North Andover. Calling Hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 in the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover.
