Joseph T. "Joe Z" Szeremeta, 86


Newburyport, MA — Joseph T. “Joe Z” Szeremeta, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Rose M. Szeremeta.

Joseph was born in Newburyport on November 28, 1925. He was the son of the late Paul and Zolsa Szeremeta and received his education in the Newburyport school system.

Joseph was a World War II U. S. Army veteran and received the purple heart medal after being injured while serving in Germany. He was a life member of Raymond Walton American Legion Post 70 of Seabrook, N.H. and North End Boat Club of Newburyport. He was the secretary of the St. Casimar Society of the former Polish Club of Newburyport.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by a daughter, Frances Page and husband Roland of Amesbury; a son, George April and wife Gloria of St. Augustine, FL; and a sister-in-law, Lillian J. Eaton of Amesbury. He was predeceased by his daughter Kathy Peloquin.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport, will be Sunday, October 21 from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service at the funeral home will be Monday at 10 a.m. followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newburyport.
