Newburyport, MA — Norman K. Colby, age 92, lifelong Newburyport resident, died Thursday evening at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Newburyport, Sept. 12, 1920, he was one of four children of the late Henry and Mildred (Kennett) Colby and had attended Newburyport schools.
A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Colby served with the United States Army.
He was a foreman with the Massachusetts Department of Public Works, retiring with more than 40 years of service.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Alicia O. (Beckman) Colby; one daughter, Sally Pearson; one son, Norman K. Colby Jr. and wife Stephanie, all of Newburyport; two grandchildren, Lori Pearson Hay and husband Timothy of Newburyport and Kennett Colby and wife Deanna of Sandown, N.H.; three great-grandchildren, Bianca Hay, Natasha Hay Sanborn and husband Brendan and Sophia Colby; one sister, Miriam “Betty” Ayers of Spokane, Wash., along with several generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Colby Pearson, and two brothers, William and Calvin Colby.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, will be Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services at the funeral home will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Belleville Cemetery, Newburyport
