Byfield — Loving wife, Mom, Nana and Great Nana, Iva C. (Walls) Manter, 79, of Byfield passed away on Tuesday, October 16, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.
Iva was happily married to Warren E. Manter for 62 years. They have five children: Dale and Peggy Manter, Barry and Jeanie Manter and Diane Manter, of Byfield; Ed and Ann Manter and Dean and Cindy (Manter) Wade of Sidney Maine. They have nine grandchildren, Ed Manter and Jen Hennebury, Steve and Kelly (Manter) McFadden and Wendy Manter of Sidney, Maine; Tim and Jen Wade of Fairfield Maine; Matt and Lea Manter of York Maine; Chris and Jen Wade of Gardner Maine; Catie Wade and Chris Perry of Portland Maine; Steve and Stacey (Manter) Zubiel of Beverly; and Jake Manter of Byfield. They also have nine great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Emily, DJ, Trevor, Sarah, Connor, Nathan, Dakota and Julianna. She is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Grace Walls and her two sisters Pat and Francis.
Iva loved horseback riding and took great pleasure in working with her flowers. She was an inspiration to all those she touched. There was never a child she didn’t love and that didn’t light up in her presence. Her summers were spent at the lake in Maine, where she taught her children, grandchildren and great-children to swim and dive. It wasn’t uncommon for Iva to swim after a boat that had broken free from its buoy.
