Essex Junction, VT — Jean (Ellison) Howton, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 27, 1925 in Newburyport. She was one of ten children born to Walter Ellison and Dorothy (Cogger) Ellison.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, John B. Howton; three sisters, Fern McDonnell, Mildred Thurlow and Pauline Welch; three brothers, Donald Ellison, Robert Ellison and Jake Ellison and her beloved grandson, Shawn Harris.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Donna Harris and husband Toby of Amesbury, Johnny Sue Bernier and husband Steven of Essex Jct., VT and Jeannine Chinn and husband Randy of Umatilla, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Leo Ellison and wife Cecile of Newburyport and two sisters, Judy Fogel and husband Sam of Newburyport and Kay Dionne of Hudson, N.H.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean loved her hometown of Newburyport where she was born and raised and treasured her family and childhood friends and the memories they shared.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care received by the Hospice Program through the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties of Vermont.
