Laurence E. (Pud) Ackley Jr., 88

Cutler, Me — Laurence E. Ackley Jr. died unexpectedly March 5, 2013 at Eastern Maine Medical Center. He was born March 28, 1924 in Amesbury, MA., the son of Laurence E. Ackley Sr. and Beatrice Isabelle (Miner) Boothroyd; but grew up in Cutler, ME.

Pud joined the Coast Guard, serving from 1942 to 1946, then married Georgie Leighton in 1949.

He worked on construction jobs in Alaska, Montana and Kentucky then settled back in Amesbury, Ma. to raise four daughters. He was co-owner with Ronald Dickinson of Minuteman TV in Plaistow, N.H.

He spent the last 15 years in Cutler, ME., living in his boyhood home.

Pud was a member of the Warren Masonic Lodge, the NRA, and the East Stream ATV Riders. He loved spending time riding his ATV's with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also his two best buddies, Robert Davis and Sherman McCasin.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Georgie and his sister Mary.

Survivors include sisters Ruth Farris and husband John of Cutler and Abbie Berg and husband Don of Cambridge, ME. Daughters Bonnie Regis and husband Tim and Cathy Soucy and husband Ken, both of Amesbury, MA; Laureen Bean and husband Donny of Fort Myers, FL and Tracy Stone and husband George of Grand Cayman Island.

His grandchildren: Jason Regis, Heather Wright, Aaron Regis, Caryn Ahlstrom, Kristan Robicheau, Scott Soucy, Melissa Bean, Kyle Bean, Derek Bean, Alec McLaughlin, Colton Stone, Brandon Stone and 13 great-grandchildren: Molly, Abby, Sam, Alice, Adeline, Noah, Christopher, Emma, Adam, Ryanne, Jacob, Madison, and Camron. Also family friend Johanna Franz and numerous nieces and nephews, including Jeanette Ingalls and husband Lenny of Cutler.

ARRANGEMENTS: Per request of family there will be no calling hours, but memorial services are being planned for a later date, both in Amesbury, MA and Cutler, ME.

She was an avid card player and reader and was a huge Boston sports fan. She enjoyed shuffleboard and extensive travel with her loving husband until he passed in 2009.
