Newburyport — Catherine Lorraine Leary, 87, of Newburyport, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her home in Newburyport. Lorraine was born in Newburyport, March 8, 1926, to the late Francis and Catherine (Barry) Finnegan.
She was a graduate of Newburyport High School, class of 1944 and also a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Brighton. Lorraine worked at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport before becoming a Newburyport school nurse. She also worked for Home Health VNA. She volunteered at Opportunity Works for many years and at the Immaculate Conception School as a nurse for many years. She also volunteered as an Outreach Nurse for Newbury Council on Aging. Lorraine was a past president of Community Services. She was the “Flu Shot Lady” and had given thousands of flu shots. Lorraine will be missed by all.
She was the widow of Daniel F. Leary. She was also the mother of the late Richard Leary and sister of the late Richard Finnegan. Her survivors include a son, Stephen Leary of Newbury; and her other "son,” Scott Ratte and his wife, Christine (Learned) Ratte and their children, Alyssa, Conor, Kalyn and Delaney, all of Freemont, Calif.; brother, Leo Finnegan of Newburyport. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Parish, 33 Green St., Newburyport.
