Merrimac, MA — Robert Charles Atwood, 45, a longtime Merrimac resident, died unexpectedly on November 6, 2013, at his home.
Born in Haverhill on September 30, 1968, he was the son of Thomas I. and Mildred C. (Russo) Atwood. He was a graduate of Pentucket Regional High School, Class of 1986, followed by graduation from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, receiving degrees in architecture as well as architectural engineering.
Mr. Atwood was an architectural engineer working for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Division of National Park Service, for the Northeast Region in architectural preservation, engineering and maintenance.
Robert was an elected member of the Merrimac Planning Board, member of the Merrimac Lions Club and, as a lover of architecture, was a member of the American Institute of Architects.
In addition to his loving parents, Thomas and Mildred Atwood of Bluffton, S.C., he is survived by his brother, Thomas Atwood and wife, Pamela, of West Newbury; his nephew and two nieces, who were extremely dear to him, Scott, Jane and Kelly Atwood; along with many dear friends, all of whom are truly saddened by his untimely passing.
However, Robert has left them all wonderful memories of a life well lived, filled with many accomplishments, adventures and much love. His memories will never leave them.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be at the Highland Street Chapel of Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, on Thursday, November 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, at 11 a.m. Interment will be private for the family.
