Laurieta A. (Longley) Mello

Georgetown — Laurieta A. (Longley) Mello passed away peacefully on Mother's Day, May 12, at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport. She was the beloved wife of 68 years of the late John W. Mello. Mrs. Mello was a longtime resident of Georgetown and wintered for more than 35 years in St. Petersburg, Fla. Most recently she was a resident of Nichols Village in Groveland. She was an avid card player and reader and was a huge Boston sports fan. She enjoyed shuffleboard and extensive travel with her loving husband until he passed in 2009.

Mrs. Mello was born on December 28, 1921, in Georgetown. She was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Minnie (Colburne) Longley. She was a 1938 graduate of Perley High School in Georgetown and attended Dean Junior College. She was predeceased by her brothers, Grant, Howard, and Andrew Longley.

Mrs. Mello is survived by her beloved children, Andrea (Mello) Strogney and her husband, David, of Inverness, Fla., Clifford and his wife, Janice, of Rowley, and Gregory and his wife, Cathy, of Georgetown. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Schenk of Carson City, Nev. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Mello.

Mrs. Mello is also survived by seven loving grandchildren; grandsons, Jeffrey Strogney of Merrimac, Jason Mello and his wife, Lindsay, of Newburyport, and Dean Mello and his wife, Kelly, of York, Maine; and granddaughters, Lori (Strogney) Fauth and her husband, Michael, of Haverhill, Traci (Strogney) Adams and her husband, Howard, of Haverhill, Kelly (Mello) Woodsum and her husband, David, of West Newbury, and Kimberly (Mello) Yaeger and her husband, Timothy, of Menlo Park, Calif.

In addition, 12 great-grandchildren will sadly miss their "Grammie," Derrick and Kyle Fauth, Matthew and Corey Strogney, Samantha McQuillan, Riley Baker, Jake and Zack Woodsum, Aiden and Ella Mello, and Callum and Elyse Yaeger. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The matriarch of a large, loving family, Mrs. Mello will sadly be missed.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be at the Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant St., Georgetown, MA 01833 on Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Conte Funeral Home on Friday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m., with burial immediately following at Harmony Cemetery in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

    Salisbury, MA. — John A. D’Amore, 77, of Salisbury, passed on June 15, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer. John was born in Medford on Feb. 19, 1937 to the late Anthony and Angelina (Christoforo) D’Amore. He graduated from Medford High School in 1955 where he played football and hockey. John spent most of his life working in the construction industry as a project estimator/manager. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching sports especially football and hockey. John was also a longtime youth hockey coach.

    Haverhill, MA — Richard Zelinski, 56, of Haverhill, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 22. Richard was born in Jersey City, N.J., and was the son of Nancy Newton and Walter Zelinski. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Giesen, Germany, and later enlisted in the National Guard. Richard worked for many years at Kevlin Corp./Cobham Defense Systems as a test lab supervisor. In his free time, he enjoyed martial arts, SCUBA diving, working out in the early morning hours, but most of all playing tennis at Cedardale, where he was a member. He was a committed father, who deeply loved his family and firmly believed in the dignity of labor. He will be terribly missed.

George was a graduate of Northeastern University, receiving his B.S. in Business Management in June 1995 and his Executive M.B.A. in June 2000.
