Kenneth Malcolm Heywood


Salisbury, MA — Kenneth Malcolm Heywood, age 93, longtime Salisbury resident, died early Thursday morning at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Erma A. (Nugent) Heywood, who died November 16, 1994.

Born in Newburyport, March 27, 1920, he was raised by Leo and Sarah Butler and had attended Newburyport schools.

Kenneth was a proud veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy from January 5, 1942 until his honorable discharge on November 19, 1945. He had served aboard the USS York Town II.

Mr. Heywood was a communications worker for Western Electric in North Andover, retiring in 1982, after 30 years of service and was a lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America.

Kenneth was an avid gardener and took great pride in tending to his apple trees and feeding the birds. He was well known for his delicious “Pottsville Relish” that he would make and give to family and friends to savor. He was a hard working man, loved life, was dedicated to his

family and was totally enthralled by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He leaves behind his son, Kenneth M. Heywood and wife, Sandra, of Saline, Mich.; his stepdaughter, Tamara Calabrese and husband, Tony, of Seabrook, N.H.; along with his 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought such great pleasure to his life. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Mary Trewhitt and his brother, Stuart C. Heywood.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport, will be Monday, September 2, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. followed by interment in Long Hill Cemetery, Salisbury. By request of the family, donations in his memory may be made to the local D.A.V. Chapter of the donor’s choice.
