Francis (Frank) Beals, 74


HOPEMILLS, NC — Francis (Frank) Beals died peaceably on July 14, 2013, at his home in Hopemills, after a long illness. He was born in New London, Conn., Dec. 14, 1938, and was raised in Haverhill, Mass. Frank was a 1958 graduate of The Haverhill Trade School, receiving both a Certificate in Sheet Metal, Machine and a Haverhill High School Diploma with Scholarships. After graduating he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Cuban Missile Crisis. After completing his tour of duty, he returned home and started his family and career.

Frank was employed by the WE Company, No. Andover, Mass., as a machinist. He later joined General Ionex Corp., Newburyport, Mass., as a machinist engineer in Research/Manufacturing of High Energy Ion Systems and later on joined Varian Inc., Gloucester, Mass., which was the joy of his career in the Research/Manufacturing of Medium and High Current Ion Implantors used in Semiconductor Manufacturing World Wide. One of his associates put it very well saying there was never anyone better than Frank at solving problems and overcoming problems - both technically and bureaucratic. He was a can-do type of engineer/technician with American Yankee ingenuity.

He was the son of the late Francis X. Beals and Doris (Fraser) Beals. He is survived by his brother, Richard A. Beals and wife, Patricia V. Beals, Amesbury, Mass., and sister, Daniele (Beals) Caradonna and husband, Rocco Cardonna, Boscawen, N.H.; his sons, Robert Beals, Danville, N.H., Scott Beals, Derry, N.H., Luke Beals, Sanford, Maine, and their spouses; daughters, Irene, Littleton, N.H., Susan, Erin, N.Y., Cheryl, NSW, Australia and their spouses; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two nephews; one aunt; several nieces and cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: A private memorial service will be held and announced at a later date.
