Robert W. O'Keefe, 83

Newburyport, MA — Robert W. O'Keefe, (Colonel, USAF, retired) of Newburyport and Hampton Beach, N.H., formerly of Lexington, died suddenly with his family at his side on Wednesday, September 11. Son of the late Dr. Walter and Anatolie O'Keefe. Devoted husband of 59 years to Jane I. (McNamara). Loving father to Robert Jr., and his wife, Karen, of Chelmsford, Kerry Daley of Lexington, Michael of Maynard, Patricia O'Leary and her husband, Daniel, of Newburyport. Cherished grandfather of Kailagh, Courtney and Kathleen O'Keefe, John, Bryan, and Kate Daley, and Matthew and Meaghan O'Leary. Brother in-law of C. Patricia O'Keefe, and predeceased by his brother, John F. of Worcester and Wells, Maine. As a young boy growing up in Worcester, Bob attended St. John’s Prep in Shrewsbury, he received his undergraduate degree from Fitchburg State and his Masters from the University of Nebraska. Enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1952, Bob was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in November of 1953 and he married his sweetheart, Jane, on December 26, the same year. Though stationed throughout the world while on active duty, he and Jane eventually settled at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford raising their children in Lexington. After his retirement from the Air Force in 1978 with the rank of Colonel, Bob went on to have a successful real estate career. Once fully retired, he made his home in Newburyport, spent his summers at Hampton Beach, N.H., enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family and friends.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Monday, September 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Green Street, Newburyport. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newburyport. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Conte, Twomey-LeBlanc Funeral Home, 193 High St., Newburyport.
