Vancouver, WA — Helene Stenvall Stock of Longview, Washington, died suddenly on November 11. She was born in Nak Nek, Alaska, on September 16, 1932, and shortly thereafter was orphaned. She lived in the Jesse Lee Children's Home in Seward, AK until the war when the military converted it to officer's quarters and sent Helene and her sisters to live in Palmer, AK. In 5th grade she met her future husband the late Larry Stock who later moved the family to his ancestoral homestead in Kelso, Washington. Helene enjoyed working at Seattle First National Bank, was an avid golfer, and in the 1990s when she retired came to Newburyport to be near her young grandsons.
Helene loved her family deeply, valued her friendships, and was legendary for wearing the color purple unless it was a holiday—then she faithfully wore the colors of the season. Mrs. Stock is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cyd and Manfred Raschke; grandsons, William and Derek, all of Newburyport; son, Kevin Stock of Palmer, AK; grandchildren, Sarah and Garrett Hoboy and great-granddaughter, Emma of Atascadero, CA; and niece, Susan Haines of Kauai, HI. Helene was also predeceased by son, Lindsey Stock, and siblings, Hilda, Oscar and Penny. She was the last of her generation in the family and will be very much missed by all of her loved ones.
