Mrs. Ruth C. (Veale) McElligott, formerly of Clark Circle and Victory Rd., Lynn, died on Tuesday at her residence, Shore View House, Lynn Home for Elderly Persons surrounded by her family after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Retired Superintendent of Mails, Lynn Post Office, J. Edward McElligott, who died in 2004, with whom she had shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Sarah M. (McGivern) Veale. A lifelong Lynn resident, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s Girls High School as well as Lynn Hospital School of Nursing.
A Registered Nurse, Ruth worked at Lynn Hospital and had also worked in Dr. Elzear F. Asselin’s office in Lynn for many years. A lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Lynn, she was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Guild, St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality and the Infant of Prague Guild. She also belonged to the Catholic Nurse’s Guild, the Canasta Club, and the Yakity Yak Bowling League.
She is survived by 2 sons; Thomas J. McElligott and his wife Marilyn of West Newbury and John E. “Ted” McElligott and his wife Joan of Lynn; 2 daughters; Mrs. Ruth Iarrobino and her husband Thomas of Swampscott and Janet McElligott of Lynn; 8 grandchildren; Thomas S. McElligott, Shawn P. McElligott, Brendon C. McElligott and his wife Sarah, Beth I. Faia and her husband Steven, Anne M. Quagrello and her husband Patrick, Paul T. Iarrobino, Jay E. McElligott, and Jessie McElligott and her husband Ryan Koch; 8 great-grandchildren; Justin and Eric Faia, Paige, Victoria and Olivia Quagrello, Cheyanne and Bralynn McElligott, and Jarett Koch; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late S. Josephine Willett, Margaret Conway, Mary Shanahan, Eileen Veale, Anna Rowe, and James and Edmund Veale. Ruth’s family would like to thank the staff at Shore View House for their loving care and attention.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9AM from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Lynn at 10AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 4-7PM.
