A graduate of Amesbury High School, he was a star player for the Amesbury High School football team, receiving two four-year football scholarships, one to Marshall University in West Virginia, the other to Idaho State University. After receiving the news about the plane crash of November 17, 1970, which carried the entire football team from Marshall University, Norman decided on Idaho State College. -
