Ruth E. (McLeod) Walsh Banks, 97

Amesbury — It is with loving memories that the family of Ruth Elizabeth (McLeod) Walsh Banks announces her passing on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Maplewood Center, Amesbury, Mass. Ruth was born in Salem, Mass., on October 19, 1916, to the late Harry G. and Emily (Mansell)McLeod.

Ruth graduated from Salem High School in 1933. She was then employed by Webber's Department Store in Salem. Following her marriage to M. Joseph Walsh in 1937, she resided in Peabody for the next 74 years. She served as an officer in the Farnsworth PTA for several years. After the death of her husband, she was employed in several area businesses as an office worker. She retired from Varian Associates in Beverly in 1981 as a TWIX operator. Ruth was also the widow of Ernest E. Banks, who died in 1993.

During retirement, Ruth was active in the Golden Agers of Peabody, the Torigian Senior Center, and especially, line dancing with the Jo Bridges Dancers. Her hobbies included gardening, knitting for various local charities, and rooting for all the Boston sport teams. What gave her the most joy, however, were family celebrations on holidays. She loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her children, Mary E. (Walsh) Parry and husband, James, of Groveland, Patricia A. (Walsh) Moulton of Wilmington, and Michael J. Walsh of Peabody; her grandchildren, Cathryn E. Parry and her husband, Louis Cicolari, Toni M. (Moulton) Carmody and husband, Mark, of Amesbury, Philip A. Parry and wife, Denise, of Merrimac, Tina E. (Moulton) Kinsella and husband, James, of Wilmington, David M. Parry and wife, Stephanie, of Acton, and Stephen R. Parry and wife, Crystal, of Seattle, Wash.; and her great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, Charles, and Philip Parry, Shayne, Kaitlin and Ryan Kinsella, Lyndsey, Kristen and Sarah Parry, Declan, Conor and Skylyn Carmody, and Nina, Aiden and Ava Parry. Ruth is also survived by cousins, Ada Reynolds and Florence Larkin of Danvers; and several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Alice R. (McLeod) Herlihy, Phyllis E. (McLeod) Doherty, H. Gordon McLeod, and Donald H. McLeod.

The family is most grateful to Maplewood Center for the care and compassion shown to their mother throughout her stay.
