Patricia "Pat" (Dempsey) Anthony

RYE, NH — Patricia “Pat” (Dempsey) Anthony, 81, formerly of Newburyport, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 19, 2013, at Sanctuary Care at Rye, N.H.

Born in Mineola, N.Y., on June 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Bernard “Frank” and Marie Dempsey. Pat was a graduate of Oneonta State Teachers College, and became a teacher at many public and parochial schools throughout her 25 years of teaching.

A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by Clare Anthony of Danvers; Michael Anthony and wife, Kathleen, and their children, Michael, Meghan, Kelley, Matthew, and Maryanna of Ipswich; Thomas Anthony and wife, Laura, and their children, Benjamin and Christina of Bradenton, Fla.; and Daniel Anthony and wife, Dianne, and their children, Christopher, Paul and Stephanie of Greenland, N.H. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Pat is survived by her twin sisters, Margaret McCartney of California and Elizabeth Strickland of Kentucky, along with several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Bernard F. Dempsey, who died in August 2005.

Pat enjoyed traveling extensively with the Friendship Force of the North Shore, listening to music, especially the Boston Pops Orchestra, and playing Bingo with her dear friend and neighbor, Madeline Lia of Topsfield. Pat is also survived by her friend, Shirley McCarthy of Sandwich.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, August 24, from 9 to 12 p.m., at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport. Interment will be private for the family.
