FEEDING HILLS, MA — Donald R. Courage, 80, of Feeding Hills, MA and formerly of Rowley, MA, died peaceably at Heritage Hall in Agawam, MA on November 26, 2013.
He was the husband of Patricia (Hardy) Courage with whom he was married to for 54 years.
Donald was the youngest child of the late Raymond and Veulah (Crowell) Courage. He was born in Everett, MA, moved to Rowley, MA and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1951. He also lived in Hampton, NH and Barefoot Bay, FL before returning to MA in 2009.
Donald served in the US Army 83rd Ordinance Battalion and received the Good Conduct and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1953 and then was a member of the USAR until 1962.
Following his discharge from the Army he worked at the Bailey Corp. in Amesbury. In 1959 he went to work at USM Corp in Beverly where he worked for over 30 years.
“Sharp,” as he was known by many, had a passion for fresh water fishing and he was often seen fishing at the Ipswich Pumping Station or many of his other numerous “hot spots” in the area. He was an avid card player; thus came his nickname, “Sharp” because he could tell you every card that had been played. He often enjoyed playing the slots and going to horse races and it wasn’t uncommon to see him making puzzles or sitting at the computer playing games.
In addition to his wife, Pat, he leaves one daughter, Kim Williamson of Portland, ME; two grandchildren, Jason Raynor of North Andover, MA and Heather Raynor of Portland, ME; four great-grandsons, Tyler, Dylan, Nicholas and Damien; one sister, Veulah Hawkins of Tampa, FL; three sisters-in-law, Beulah Richardson, Virginia and Hilda Hardy and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman, Richard, Raymond, Frederick and Edward Courage and by his grandson, Eric Raynor.
