Amesbury — Jan S. Tonderys, age 69, of Amesbury, formerly from Brattleboro, Vt., died Tuesday morning, October 30, 2012 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Far Rockaway, N.Y., on June 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Dr. John and Margaret Tonderys. He was a graduate of Boston College and worked in the banking industry for many years.
A resident of Vermont for more than 30 years, Jan and his wife moved to Amesbury ten years ago. He enjoyed their close proximity to the ocean and visited the shores regularly. His love of the sea was only surpassed by his love of family which was the center of his universe and the driving force in his life.
In addition to his devoted wife of 41 years, Denise M. (Chenette) Tonderys of Amesbury, he is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey J. Tonderys and wife Kelly of Surry, N.H. and Joshua M. Tonderys and wife Lindsay of Wilmington, Del.; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan, Lucy and Eloise were his shining stars. He loved to be called their PopPop. He also leaves four brothers, Gregory and Mark of Worcester, Terence of West Roxbury, and Peter of Raynham, and a sister, Megan Bearce of Brockton, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward.
ARRANGEMENTS: A period of visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, November 5, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Avenue, Amesbury, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School Street, Amesbury. Interment will be private for the family.
