Capt. William H. Game, 96

ROWLEY — Capt.William H. Game, 96, US Navy, retired, formerly of Slingerlands, N.Y. died on Nov. 5, 2012, at Sea View Retreat in Rowley.

He was preceded by his wife of almost 60 years, Phyllis H. Game. He was one of the last remaining Pearl Harbor survivors. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he graduated from Albany High School and from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1940. He was serving on the U.S.S. Raleigh, in Pearl Harbor, when the Japanese attacked the Hawaiian Islands December 7, 1941, and is mentioned in The Day of Infamy. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1943 and earned an MS in Aeronautical Engineering from MIT in 1947. After retiring from the Navy in 1965, Captain Game worked at the N.Y. State Dept. of Labor until retirement in 1981. He was a member of Naval Lodge No. 4 of the Masonic Order, University Club, Naval Academy Alumni Association, Toast Masters and the American Contract Bridge League.

Before moving to MA in 2003, he was a charter member of the Tri-Village Square Dance Club in N.Y. and enjoyed golf at Normanside Country Club. He served on the Board of Directors and was Treasurer of the La Salle School for Boys.

Capt. Game benefited from the superb care he received from the entire caring staff at Sea View and, prior to March 2011, from Caldwell Home in Ipswich. A very special thank you was earned by Walter Krawczuk and Mary Sullivan of Rowley, and Sandra Gray and Virginia Slattery of Peabody for their many years of caring and support. They gave him quality of life in his final years.

He is survived by two daughters and their families. Carol and Alan Strelzoff of Boxford, and their children, Gregory Strelzoff and Lynn Silba of Los Angeles, Calif., Fredrick Strelzoff of Austin, Texas, Erik Strelzoff and Alannah Gustavson of Maynard, and Becky and Michael Stern of Astoria, N.Y. Joanne and Wayne Hasegawa have a son, Kreg. He has three great-grandchildren, Keagan, Torin, and Jane Strelzoff.

ARRANGEMENTS: Interment with Military Honors will be at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.
