Amesbury, MA — George J. Pilon, age 86, lifelong Amesbury resident, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 27, 1925, son of the late George and Mathilde (Castonguay) Pilon. He had attended Sacred Heart School.
Mr. Pilon was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines with the U.S. Navy from March 2, 1944 until his honorable discharge on May 15, 1946. Throughout his lifetime, he loved reminiscing and sharing stories about his time in the Navy, his childhood and family history, he was his family’s vivid link to their past.
An expert auto body repairman, he had been employed by Fenn Motors in Newburyport before starting his own repair shop in Amesbury in 1972, George’s Auto Body, now owned and operated by his son, Robert.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he shared with his family his love of hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, bowling and his passion for American cars. He was also an avid Bruins fan. His six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were his greatest joy. He beamed when they called him “Pepere.”
In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, Denise T. (Archambault) Pilon, he is survived by one son, Robert G. Pilon and wife, Roberta ,of Kingston, N.H.; two daughters, Suzanne Pouliotte of Rings Island, Salisbury, and Lise Pilon-Chaves and husband, Denis, of Hudson; six grandchildren, Allison Pouliotte, Julie Pouliotte Cole and husband, Nicholas; Kendra and Kraig Pilon, and Dominique and Annalise Chaves; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Emma Cole; two brothers, Roland Pilon and Robert W. Pilon and wife, Margaret; and one sister, Irene Eaton, all of Amesbury; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gisele Cote and Gilberte Pilon, and one brother, Robert Pilon.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours at the Highland Chapel of Paul C. Rogers & Sons Family Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church of the Holy Family Parish, 2 School St., Amesbury. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Holy Family Parish, 11 Sparhawk St., Amesbury, MA 01913.
