Michael W. Lyons, 53

Acton, Maine — Michael W. Lyons, 53, of Acton, Maine, passed away on Nov. 28, 2012. He was currently employed at Hampstead Nursing Services, where he worked as a pediatric nurse caring for children.

Michael was born on Feb. 19, 1959. He was the son of Frances E. Lyons and the late William M. Lyons of Newburyport. Michael grew up in a gentle, open family. He had a deep loving relationship with his entire family, especially with his three brothers. He recently acted as the health proxy for his brother, Pat, and cared for him up to and after his last day.

Michael attended Newburyport High School and graduated with the class of 1977. He maintained a consistent balance between educational responsibilities and enjoyment. Mike played football in high school and enjoyed playing and watching other sports.

After high school, Michael became a U.S. Navy petty officer, spending four years specializing as a hospital corpsman. After serving his country, Michael attended the University of Oregon and the University of Massachusetts, focusing on biology and electrical engineering. His nursing degree came through self-study and individual effort, and he used those skills to care for others in a professional manner.

Michael went on to have a family of his own with his wife, Terri; daughter, Shivohn; and sons, Shane, Daniel and Seth. He resided in Milton Mills, N.H., in their family home for many years.

Michael was a skilled adventurer who enjoyed camping and the outdoors. On many occasions, he would canoe and camp in the Northern Maine woods, relying only on maps, outdoorsmanship and comradery, paddling and camping for days into the wilderness without encountering people. Mike also liked to trek in the woods. One of his favorite hikes was Tuckerman’s ravine in the White Mountains, which he climbed numerous times on Memorial Day weekend. He would take many road trips with many people, and took many pictures.

Michael also had a love of landscaping and enjoyed planting and gardening in his yards. This was a relaxing hobby for him and he loved to do it daily. He had a creative mind to help him make his yard extremely beautiful and many people were amazed by his effort and work.

Michael made many friends, and was a good friend, along life's journey. He maintained contact with family and friends whom he loved and cherished. He put forth effort to visit people in person, via phone or the written word. He would give good, steady guidance in the ways of dealing with people and the events of life.

Michael is survived by his mother, Frances E. Lyons; his wife, Terri; daughter, Shivohn and her husband, Shane; sons, Shane, Daniel and Seth; brothers John and companion, Sue Bradley; and Brett and wife, Diane; and nephews Joe, Kyle, and Corey.
