Newburyport, MA — Frances M. (Cosgrove) Marshall, age 92, of Newburyport, died peacefully on Saturday morning, February 2, 2013 at Country Manor Skilled Nursing Center in Newburyport, MA.
Born in Newburyport, January 21, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Francis B. and Luella A. (Bagley) Cosgrove and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1938.
In her early years, Fran worked as a clerk for the Newburyport City Hall Welfare Office. She married her high school sweetheart, Cliff Marshall, in 1941 and eventually they moved their family to Atlanta, Georgia as Cliff’s lifelong career with Towle Silversmiths began. They spent 20 years there, making countless friends and memories while raising their daughter, Lynne and son, Richard. A dedicated mother and wife, Fran loved to take care of her family. She also worked in the Decatur, Georgia school system performing clerical duties.
She enjoyed numerous vacations in Florida with family and friends and always looked forward to her trips back “home” to Newburyport every summer to reunite with old friends. Fran and Cliff moved back to Newburyport in 1974, eventually settling in Seabrook, NH where they spent the rest of their years together. Fran’s greatest gift in life was her granddaughter, Eryn, whom she adored and some of her fondest memories were watching Eryn perform at horse shows.
Fran was a beautiful, caring, lovely lady who will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched over the years.
She was the loving wife of 54 years to Clifford R. Marshall who predeceased her in 1995, and was also predeceased by her son, Richard C. Marshall and her grandson, Ryan M. Carter. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lynne A. Carter and her husband Edward J. Carter, Jr. of Newburyport, her granddaughter, Eryn Elizabeth Carter and fiancé, Nicholas Eaton of Seabrook, NH, along with the many friends and caregivers who provided love and support over her last 18 years living at Heritage House in Newburyport.
ARRANGEMENTS: A period of visitation will be held Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 10 to 11 A.M. at the Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Family Funeral Home, 35 Green Street, Newburyport immediately followed by services at the funeral home and interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newburyport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, 360 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, MA 01843.
